Borders - Like nothing happened
2016
In the summer of 2015 I spent a few weeks helping refugees as they entered Hungary. I was shocked by what I experienced: I met families running from fear, running for hope. I was unable to take proper photos, only used my iPhone for “remembering”. 4 months later I went back to the then important scenes. The border is closed, the fence works. Empty, abandoned landscapes. No sign of evidence. No sign of history. Upon my return I paired, layered my images with the ones taken that summer. The refugees’ presence is carved in the landscape. To me it remains part of that environment. Part of the now changing european borders.
